Spit Roast Pork Loins 150x150 Gold Taste of Italy Porchetta Package hog roast If you’ve ever been to Italy on holiday, you will probably have come across one of the country’s most popular street foods – porchetta.  Sold out of customised vans at markets, on the roadside and at festivals and fairs, porchetta is pork flavoured with fennel and rosemary and slow roasted and served in bread rolls.

It’s absolutely delicious, and the arrival of the vans in small towns is eagerly awaited and soon draws long lines of hungry locals drawn by the heady aroma of roasted meat and herbs.

New for 2012, Big Roast has introduced a “Taste of Italy Porchetta” package. We have taken our pork loins to new heights with the addition of a fennel, garlic, rosemary and lemon rub to infuse our meat with the traditional flavours of porchetta. And if that’s not enough, we have also created a tastebud-tingling rosemary and lemon sauce to drizzle over your porchetta.

This Gold ‘Porchetta’ package includes a delicious selection of Italian salads, freshly prepared by our Leith’s trained chef:

  • Rocket and Parmesan Salad: (V) (N)
    • A delicious mix of rocket leave, parmesan shavings and toasted pine nuts tossed with an extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar dressing.
  • Pesto Potato salad: (V)
    • A classic potato salad taken to new heights with the addition of lemony mayonnaise, basil pesto and rocket
  • Caprese-style Salad: (V)
    • We’ve taken the classic mozzarella and tomato combo and added baby leaf spinach, plump black olives and a zingy olive oil and lemon juice dressing

Also included are all the plates, cutlery, rolls and sauces, and of course one of our trained chefs to make sure you have a successful event.

The pork loin is certainly the most common form of spit roast cooked in the UK – offering all the flavour of a hog roast but in a much shorter time frame.

Although the major benefit of the spit roast is it ability to be adaptable a normal pork loin event would take the following structure –

  1. We arrive about 3 hours before serving.
  2. After our initial set up, the loin takes about 2 hours to be cooked on the spit roast.
  3. Our experienced chef takes 20 to 30 minutes to carve the meat.
  4. We recommend serving the pork straight from the machine to keep it nice and warm, and serving takes around 45 minutes to an hour for up to 100 people.
  5. We serve our pork with an apple sauce and customers can choose to serve themselves salad and rolls. If customers wish us to marinate the pork prior to serving this is possible.
  6. We clean and clear away, leaving you to enjoy your event.
