Hog Roast Returns to Louisiana School

For one Louisiana school, a traditional hog roast was always a great way to celebrate a football win, particularly as it was chance to taunt their opponents…that is, until the hog roast feast was banned two years ago. On 15th October, Bunkie High School Panther Club will once again rolled up their sleeves and tucked into a delicious meal of succulent meat as they nourished themselves after working hard on the field. Now that suitable fire safety precautions have been put in place, such as a fire extinguisher on hand at all times (something which was not available in previous years), the powers-that-be gave their blessing for the party to go ahead once again, and hopefully continue for the years to come. The hog roast began as a gesture from Bunkie High School to their long-standing rivals Marksville High; the two teams played each other in the season finals for many years running. Not only this, but a few jokes were had along with the delicious meal, such as the Bunkie team making signs offering hungry spectators ‘Tiger Meat’. The tiger is Marksville’s mascot. We’re sure it was hilarious at the time.

Hog Roast at Tisbury Carnival

Punters who braved the September weather in order to bring joy and happiness to a Saturday afternoon last weekend at Tisbury carnival were certainly not let down, as all their senses were treated to the spectacular array of delights that were on offer for all to see and sample.

Prior to the main event of the evening- which was, as is tradition at the carnival, a procession in which children and adults alike donned their best fancy dress creations and pounded the streets showing off their outfits- the crowds enjoyed market stalls selling handmade crafts, a parade of classic cars, and a hog roast, which was munched down by many a hungry person.

Of course, we all know that autumn can be something of anti-climax after the excitement and holidays that come in the summer months. It gets colder, and the temptation is to tuck yourself inside and hide away from the elements- don’t be tempted, say we. As autumn creeps closer, as the leaves turn from green to brown and begin to get crunchy under our feet, it seems like the time for outdoor partying is over for another year, that al fresco celebrations need to be put on hold for a while. Well, say we here at Big Roast HQ, autumn is in fact another reason to party, gather your friends around, enjoy some luscious food, and give thanks for all the lovely nosh that our planet provides for us.

Across the world, Harvest Festival is a time for gathering tins, packets and other preserved goods, packing them up in pretty boxes, and sending them off to people who may be less fortunate than ourselves as a gift, and to set them off on the right foot as winter comes along. Hog roast feeds the masses during the recession

Who would’ve thought that during our time of skimping and saving that the humble piggy would be helping to see us through? Research conducted by The Independent shows that throughout this year, the hog roast has made a comeback, as companies can feed hundreds of people for a fraction of the price of a sit down meal. The social factor is also a big turn-on, with colleagues able to mingle easily, and have time to bond with each other in a time when morale in companies may be particularly low – a great social opportunity for those who work so hard for a company to be rewarded and feel appreciated. How to hold a hog roast London style!

At the end of last month we celebrated the birthdays of our very own Big Roast babies, little Louis and Zoe, and so what were we to do but hold a party. When it comes to learning how to do it properly, we thought, no better way than start them young- and so we embarked on teaching them how to hold a hog roast London style! We sent out invitations nice and early, and went about selecting the salads that would be served with our meat, making sure that the varied tastes of our guests would be catered for, and set about planning the entertainment. A balloon sculptor was found, with promises of monkeys, racing cars and giant cartoon characters (and this was just for the adults).

Cakes were baked, pineapples cored for the baby pina coladas, and decorations were streamed around the house. As the day of the party approached, the sun shined and spirits were high; it also seemed that a few of our friends were getting similar party-throwing ideas, as the ‘how to hold a hog roast London style’ tips spread like wild fire. The food went down a treat- we’re already looking forward to next year’s celebration!

Pig Roast or Pig Rodeo?

Big Roast may be the original supplier of pig roasts in London but the Japanese, innovative as ever, have created a pig rodeo. Not as tasty as a wild boar roast the Japanese now televise those brave souls willing to take the metaphorical bull by the horns and literally take a pig by it’s flank and try not to fly into the mud as a hog runs round it’s sty.

Big Roast, although an advocate for the spectacular flavour of a hog roast, would never want an animal to be caused unnecessary pain. However, we have been reassured that no pig was hurt during the making of this, or any other, broadcast. In fact injuries all round have been keep to a minimum with pride, and a little dignity, being caused the most damage. One hapless contestant did receive a nasty bite, requiring stitches, and another received a bruised eye when pig and contestant ran into the sty fence. Thankfully the big was unharmed.

Wedding Hog Roast in Ascot Mansion

Big Roast would like to congratulate Jake and Freya and wish them all the luck in the world as they begin the rest of their lives as husband and wife. Our chefs almost shed a tear as they were on hand to provide an evening hog roast buffet on the patio terrace of this beautiful Ascot country house.

Big Roast have provided hog roasts for some large events, some grand events and some big events but this has to be Big Roasts most elegant roasting event. We sent our best roaster, head chef Steven, to this hog roast in Ascot and his expert skill was put to task as he seasoned, marinated, carved and created a boar roast banquet fit for this spectacular setting.

There was a few questions about Big Roast attending this wedding reception. Initial problems with the venue were going to stop us from providing a roast in the evening with the venue unhappy with allowing an outside caterer onto their premises. However the happy couple were very keen on having a big roast service. Working with Jake, who had more than enough to think about, we made a deal that allowed Big Roast to provide its delicious best.

Big Roast would like to congratulate the beautiful couple again and thank them for letting us be part of the happiest day of there life.

Hog Roast in Kent for the Vowels

Big Roast hopes that all of its hog roasts are greeted with vowels like “Oh!” and “Ah!” but this pig roast was actually for the Vowels. Based in Kent this spit roast was yet another sensational success with 75 happy customers ready to feast on our traditional roasting flavours.

A whole hog can feed up to 120 people so with 75 guests I had to warn the Vowels that this Kent event would have plenty of meat for everyone. They were not at all concerned with creating a real boar roast banquet though and supplemented the slow roasted pig with three of Big Roast’s more substantial salad options. Coupled with our beautifully carved pork, served on a soft white roll and with our organic apple sauce, Big Roast served a classic potato salad and a rice salad with mixed peppers, garden peas, sweet corn, sultanas & fresh herbs.

Big Roast was also on hand to provide china plates and stainless steel cutlery for this Bromley hog roast. Sometimes the thought of having to clean up can spoil a party so Big Roast always endeavours to take away as much of your event stress as possible. Big Roast can provide disposable plates and cutlery as well as the high quality china that the Vowels decided upon for this Kent roast.

As you can see from the pictures below it was a real mix of ages but everyone seemed to enjoy the food served. Big Roast always makes sure it listens to its customers and really appreciate the feedback we received.
