Charity Hog Roast raises money in Colley Gate

There’s nothing quite like settling down for a great hog roast party, chomping on delicious meat and salads, as well as sampling all of the delicious sauces and sweet treats that we have on offer here at Big Roast. Of course, we believe that knowing your pennies are going towards a great cause makes the food even more tasty.

A recent fundraiser in Colley Gate, West Midlands, saw punters enjoying lovely weather, and the experience of seeing their meat cooked fresh on a spit, all the while raising money for Acorns Children’s Hospice, which helps thousands of young people with life-threatening illnesses. Organiser Barbara Price, who has supported the hospice since the death of her cousin’s son, said “We are over the moon and grateful to everyone who turned up. It was a lot of hard work, but we really enjoyed it”.

Games for your Hog Roast Twickenham Party: part 2

In last week’s blog, we helped thousands (possibly, this might not be entirely true…) of people break the ice between guests at their special hog roast Twickenham event, and as a result, many lasting friendships were formed- all because of some lovely party games. We are somewhat presuming this is case, although are hopeful of some truth in the matter; we’re continuing our good work this week, with even more fun suggestions for party activities, although this time they’re a little more grown-up:

Name badges: Give everyone a sticker with their name and a random fact about themselves (the more random and bizarre the better), which can be a talking point for them and any strangers that they might want to strike up a conversation with.

Find your partner: Similar to the name badges, but this time, your guests are assigned a celebrity and need to find their partner in crime/comedy/cookery (you get the idea) at some point in the evening. Great fun for everyone.

Imagine this: you’ve gathered all your nearest and dearest around you, after months of planning for an ace party, and they’ve all arrived for your first hog roast Twickenham style (this means ‘extremely cool’ style). All the leg-work has been put in and there are even some lovely decorations to liven the place up. There only seems to be one problem: your guests are being a little shy and not really interacting with each other as much as you’d like. In this new two-part blog, we bring you some of the best ways in which to break the ice between people at any occasion, beginning with some good old-fashioned kiddies’ games:

Musical chairs: Best played in venues with a bit of room, but people will soon be laughing and joking with each other about the competitive spirit that’s building

Dressing up relay race: A great one for encouraging team spirit between strangers, and forming bonds that will last longer than a few hours.

Apple bobbing: As long as you provide a dry t-shirt and a towel, we reckon everyone will get stuck right into this one. There’s nothing quite like looking silly to help you make good friends.

Hog Roast Balham and a Barn Dance

This year is a very special year for our Soph, as she reaches the ripe old age of 25. Yes, we’re amazed too, she really is ancient. Being the sort of crazy chick she is, she’s thinking that she’ll be organising some sort of exciting shindig, to get her friends and family together to, well, celebrate the fact that she was born. There’s only one hitch as far as she’s concerned- a November birthday makes for difficult party planning, as rain/sleet/snow mean an inside ‘do’ is probably best, and she wants guests to snack on one of our own Big Roast feasts. As soon as she remembered that hog roast Balham can cook whatever the weather, bringing along our own mini marquee to shelter us from the elements, then she definitely perked up. “I think I’ll be having a barn dance”, she said, “as well as a delicious hog…or maybe lamb…anyway, we’ll need lots of food and energy to keep up with the dancing, so I’m relying on you guys!”.

We’ve just had just over a year of wonderful event planning and running here at Big Roast London, and we love what we do. Introducing the new Big Roast London Sauce

Not content with our meat being as delicious as it already is, we’ve added a little something new into the mix. Our Steve, one of the founders of Big Roast London all that time ago (last summer), has decided that he’s had enough of missing his favourite South African sauce, and is importing it especially for your tasting pleasure. Lappies Braai Sauce is a scrumptious blend of various top-secret ingredients; but they must be doing something right, as since the company founded in 1985, they’ve been busy spreading (hahaha, geddit?) the word and the fame, as well as developing four different sauces which are now sold across the Western Cape in South Africa.
Steve says, “Basically, I thought it was time the British public was exposed to this incredible taste experience. The braai (barbeque) tradition is so huge back home, and I want to bring some of that over here. Lappies literally goes with any meat you care to cook, which is what makes it so magic, and completely impossible to make your own. So far, it’s been going down pretty well with our clients”.

Meet the Hog Roast Harrow Team

Big Roast is nearly a year old, and we’ve spent that time travelling around the UK, making sure the parties and events that our clients are holding go off without a hitch. The trouble is, we’ve realised that you, faithful blog reader, may not know all that much about us. But help is at hand. Ladies and Gents, we introduce to you….the Hog Roast Harrow team.

Rob (Co-owner)
Fave meat: Lamb roast
Favourite salad: Red pepper pasta salad, although, quite frankly, he’d rather dig into the desserts.
A little about him: When Steve came to Rob with the idea of Big Roast, Rob was delighted. He even hired Steve to cater for his own daughter’s ‘Welcome to the World’ party.

Steve (Co-owner/chef)
Fave meat: The classic hog, with some tasty apple sauce.
Favourite salad: Tricolour pasta salad
A little about him: Brought up in South Africa, Steve has been cooking on the braai (a South African barbeque) since he can remember. We’re extremely glad to have him and his know-how over here!

Roman (the one on the end of the phone)
Fave meat: Being a vegetarian, Roman prefers our veggie options, of which there are plenty.
Favourite salad: Four bean salad with mustard dressing
A little about him: Roman loves a good knees-up, and is very generous with his catering for his party guests. He knows everything there is to know about how to help your party run smoothly, so ask away and he’ll sort you out.

Dan (the one who supplies the meat)
Fave meat: Sausages, of any shape or size.
Favourite salad: Potato salad
A little about him: Last summer, Dan was involved in catering for a number of local events; he and his barbeque really made a name for themselves around Wimbledon. Let’s hope this year sees the same thing happening!

Hog Roast Islington is 1 year old!

You may already know that this summer is pretty special for us at Big Roast. Not only it is our second peak season that we’re delivering delicious dishes to our customers around the country, helping their parties and gatherings run smoothly with their guests well fed, but it’s our very first birthday. Yes, that’s right ladies and gents, we are one year old, and to celebrate, what else is there to do but hold a hog roast Islington style?! We’ll be breaking out the banners and flags, possibly some streamers and balloons too, and inviting all of our chums around for a good old knees up. We’ll be indulging in our favourite salads (the green leaf and the tricolour pasta salad are the most popular in the office at the moment), packing juicy slices of hog into our tasty buns and topping them off with apple sauce. Our garden at big roast HQ provides the perfect setting for a summery themed party, where we can watch the sun set and play music well into the night.
